"Everything for us has gone on in the strangest ways possible, but it always ends up going beyond our expectations."- Adam Bird

"We are lower middle class kids from New Jersey and our music reflects that," says Perfuma vocalist Adam Bird. "Not necessarily in all of the songs, but there is definitely an underdog feeling in everything we do because we have had to fight so hard to be able to be a band, and then on top of that, we are musically doing something different than most bands in our scene."

Standing out from the crowd, however, has worked in Perfuma's favor. The band's debut EP, Humans Are Dangerous, is currently selling out in Hot Topic stores across New Jersey and New York. Its Internet pre-sale in December '04 saw Humans Are Dangerous in the top 50 on Smartpunk.com. And the CD consistently moves over 100 copies a month at live shows.

"The response has been insane. It's gone way beyond what we ever thought it could or would do," reveals Bird, who never intended on Humans being more than a demo. He wrote it solo and recorded tracks with famed producer Jesse Cannon (The Cure, Hot Rod Circuit), with a little help from friends in Hidden In Plainview, The Early November, Socratic, and Madison, who lended their musical talents. It wasn't until after the EP was recorded that he found his now band-mate, Eric Schnare (guitar), and took the songs to the stage. After several line-up changes through the years, Bird feels Perfuma is finally complete, thanks to the addition of bassist  Tucker (ex-Pennyroyals) in January '07.

Perfuma has performed alongside national acts and embarked on tours across the east coast. The band was one of the select unsigned bands to play The Great Bamboozle Festival 2005 in Asbury Park, along with Further Seems Forever and Fallout Boy. During the summer of 2005, Perfuma performed on the AbsolutePunk.net sponsored "Keep Your Composure Tour."

In  January '06,  the band returned to Cannon's studio to record its follow-up EP, The Black Lung Sessions. Rye Coalition's drummer, Dave Leto, laid down tracks and is continuing to play live with the band.

He's not the only special appearance on the album. Armor For Sleep's Ben Jorgenson is among the guest vocalists on the tack " Bellville," which Perfuma debuted on MYspace in March '06.

Bird describes his songwriting process this time around saying "I like to paint a picture, it might not always make full sense as a sentence but as an overall image it does." The metaphoric stories tell tales of appreciating loved ones, creation vs. evolution, a friend who died in a car accident, and leaving small town USA.

He's already working on new songs with Eric, Tucker and Dave, so expect new songs soon!
