Don’t
miss SOHODOLLS.
Maya von Doll
and company have injected their electro-sex style to audiences worldwide and
risen beyond their UK underground cult following. Most
recently, Sohodolls decorated Rolling Stone
Japan (Sept. 08 issue featured a
5 page spread of Von Doll and interview with the band) and Nylon Asia
(interview with the band + photo shoot).
We should
mention, however, that while the esteemed NME was proclaiming “Sohodolls are
the best band in the world,” our side of the pond was beginning to take
notice.
The
provocative video for “Stripper,” (also featured on Gossip Girl) has been a
knock-out at major outlets- Blender.com, Mania TV, Havoc, Fuse, Much Music
and MTV Latin America have all supported Sohodolls. Even the Virgin Mega
Store jumped on board and played the video inside its shops.
Up next, look
for “My Vampire” on the brand new season of Nip/Tuck and “Bang Bang Bang
Bang” on first episode of 'Privileged' Warner TV.
We’ll
see you at CMJ. To dish with the Dolls at the show, contact Joelle at

Until
then, here’s the buzz that’s been circulating on Sohodolls in the USA:
“Love the
Sohodolls. They rule.”- Becca
Rodriguez, NYLON TV producer
Mike Errico,
Editor of Blender.com reports
that the video for “Stripper” is “doing well and is a personal favorite.
We’re all in love with her (Maya Von Doll).”
“Great Britain
has a new electrifying synth-pop band that has hit North America’s shore
lines with all the acid glam-pop regalia of Shiny Toy Guns and the punk rock
moxie of The Soviettes….The music is both street savvy and club chic,
keeping away from falling into a mundane routine that often plagues synth-pop
albums.” - Absolute
Punk.net
“ ‘Ribbed
Music For the Numb Generation’ us a sleazy dark romp into the synthpop
underworld that will leave you breathless and exhausted. It’s a slinky,
hedonistic listen with enough fuzzed out indulgent songs that probably
should be banned in about 40 states.” – First
Coast News (Florida)
"It’s Barry
White for a modern generation."- Independent
Clauses
“I play it in
my studio every time I need a model to loosen up. Works every time and by
the end of the shoot, everyone’s got that line (“Puh, Puh, Prince Harry”) in
their heads. It’s a wonderful thing, really.” - Nazli
Shaw, Figment Photo in
Los Angeles
“They’ve got a
bit of a mainstream goth vibe in a way. I can see this band getting played
on MTV/Muchmusic and the kids loving it.” - The
Sky Was Candy
“Favorite
track (or best ass-shaker): ‘Stripper.’ Yes, I dance naked in front of the
mirror to this song… and you should, too, America!” - Suburban
Roads
“They’ve got
great style and excellent tunes. I’ve always liked the trash-glam sound;
it’s very New York Dolls. I’m sure they’ll do well here.”-- Freelancer
Juliette Miranda
COLLEGE
RADIO MUSIC DIRECTORS:
Everyone
really likes “Prince Harry.” – WUML,
University on
Massachusetts
“They are a
solid band with killer sound. They will likely get a good bit of air time.
Their sound is the kind our DJs will love. We are playing almost the whole
CD, though I have highlighted ‘Prince Harry’ and ‘Pleasures of Soho’ as my
personal favorites.” - WTSR,
The College of
New Jersey
“I loved the
album upon first hearing it. Track 4 (‘Right and Right Again’) is my
favorite, very reminiscent of Goldfrapp. The album has been getting spins
for the past week and is quickly climbing the ranks towards a spot on our
top 30!”- KCR,
San Diego State
University
